I have a question about the fonts used on Rolex movements that have date wheels, like the Datejust or OP Date, or the GMT or Submariner. If you look at the font on my Datejust, it has a certain look to it, sort of thin numbers.Rolex 1680 Date Wheel. The factory-issued date wheel on all ref. 1680s had a brushed silver metallic finish, and all the 6s and 9s were open (apart from on the 26, which was closed for some reason). You may come across two other types which would have been fitted at service.

You have an original date wheel. Mine, and others that I've seen from this era, sport the serif 7 and closed 6 and 9 date wheel. I don't know how rare it is, as the serif 7/open 6/9 date wheels seem to exist around this same period.
I’m a big fan of the font used for the date wheel. That flat top 4 and the 1 in particular. It almost has an Art Deco vibe to it. Anyone have any insight or wisdom on the font used, any history behind it or even if they vary model to model? My GMT is the only Rolex I own with a date so I’m not sure on the last point.
If you're building a 16200 series Datejust, you might try the aftermarket 3135 date wheel- it's correct as far as the fonts and closed 6's and 9's. On my 16014, I used the Luenfat datewheel, which is the same as Cubic Works, as I understand. But a 16014 is from the early 80's and the open 6's and 9's are correct for that era. How to align the date wheel: 1. Put small pin head sized drops of glue on the date wheel (not the overlay). 2. Using the stem as horizontal line, gently put the overlay onto the date wheel lining up one of the numbers. 3. Install the dial and check the alignment (look to see if it is up, down, left or to the right).

I purchased two datewheels from fierygems on eBay (known used gen rolex part seller) and just did a gen crystal/datewheel swap on my CF Pepsi and Batman.
