My personal preference would be the OP36 with black dial that is likely to be far easier to source than the Explorer. Also the OP36 case has 20mm lug width whereas the Explorer’s lug width is only 19mm. However after all is said and done, it’s all about preference, .

As a practical matter, think the only difference from a feature perspective is the safety clasp as mentioned above. The newest Rolex Explorer — whether in steel or two-tone — could be the first steel sports Rolex that doesn’t garner a waitlist. In the beginning, this won’t be the case, but I’d guess that things will settle out rather quickly. The size will make quick work of its potential customer base.

Explorer has better clasp. OP has more modern bracelet taper. OP is cheaper at MSRP. For me, Explorer would win for most OP models. Only exceptions would be turquoise or silver 36mm OPs.
